Claude Bitton & JUMP

Claude Bitton has been part of the Canadian real estate development and property management world for many years. One of Claude Bitton’s properties is located at 7751 Yonge Street, Thornhill, Ontario. The prime location of this property has made it lucrative to many triple AAA businesses who wished to rent the space from Mr. Claude Bitton for the purposes of advancing their own profits. However, Claude Bitton decided to lease this location to a rather new organization called the Jewish Urban Meeting Place, also knows as JUMP. His generosity, good will and desire to help the founder of JUMP, Rabbi Green, are the reasons that led Claude Bitton to make the risky investment of leasing this prime location property to the new, not-for-profit organization rather than to one of the several triple AAA businesses vying for this spot.

JUMP made Claude Bitton's property at 7751 Yonge Street, Thornhill, Ontario its home in October of 2007. JUMP’s mission is to grow as a community, encourage participation and strengthen the bond between the Jewish people through experience, knowledge and by giving back to the community. The physical layout of the JUMP centre was designed with the idea of it being multifunctional and allowing its users creative flexibility. To that end, the JUMP centre includes:

  • A large, luxurious lounge
  • Five workstations with free wireless internet and printing
  • An oversized boardroom
  • A library with multiple configurations
  • A fully equipped kitchen
  • 150 square feet of modular stage

Members of JUMP have certainly put the centre to good use. Some members choose to meet at the facility over lunch or after work. Others book meetings in the boardroom between classes. Still others attend the various programs offered by JUMP including Hebrew, cooking and/or yoga classes, dinner and discussion, Shabbat dinners, field trips, socials, speaker series, book club and a variety of workshops. The JUMP facility, located at Claude Bitton's property at 7751 Yonge Street, Thornhill, Ontario, offers students and young professionals between the ages of 22 and 34 opportunities to socialize with old friends and make new ones while keeping in touch with the Jewish religion.

Currently, the JUMP centre has approximately 1700 members and runs two to three programs a week. Its list of members continues to grow and emails/marketing materials reach out to approximately 6,000 recipients in Toronto. Thanks to Claude Bitton’s generosity, Jewish students and young professionals between the ages of 22 and 34 have a place where they can grow socially, spiritually and intellectually.

Claude Bitton's belief in and support of Kiruv, or Jewish outreach, was another reason for his decision to lease 7751 Yonge St. Thornhill, Ontario to JUMP.
